Peace on Earth

We are happy to share our 2018 client gift: A handcrafted African beaded coaster to celebrate the message of Peace during the holidays. We collaborated with our friends MonkeyBiz in Cape Town, an economic upliftment project dedicated to reviving the traditional craft of African Beadwork, to help us craft 60 pieces of this limited edition coasters in three different colours.

Based on the biblical narrative of Christmas, it is written in Luke 2:14 that Jesus was born the Son of God to usher in a new kind of Peace. This 'good news of peace' we wish to celebrate with our clients.

MonkeyBiz is a social enterprise is dedicated to reviving the tradition of African Beadwork, taking the love and knowledge that is passed down, over the centuries, from mother to child and becoming a bridge from traditional bead works into contemporary artworks.

Every beader has her own distinctive style and every artwork is signed by the artist so they gain recognition for their work. The majority of these artisans have known poverty, neglect and deprivation for most of their lives. This work provides them with an income.

The artists bead at home, which enables them to look after their families and keep transport costs to a minimum. Through the years, Monkeybiz has lifted over 450 women and their families out of poverty. All of the profits from the sales of artworks are reinvested back into community services, including weekly soup kitchens, yoga, drama, as well as a burial fund for artists and their families.

The colourful MonkeyBiz shop is located in Wale Street, in the popular Bo-Kaap neighbourhood known for it colourful houses, sitting against the beautiful backdrop of Table Mountain in Cape Town. Here, MonkeyBiz shows and sells the products the women in the township make, from jewellery, clothing accessories, home decorations and the very popular African animal dolls.
